ThelargestironmeteoritediscoveredintheUnitedStates,weighing15.5tons,wasunearthedinWestLinnin1902andfeaturedinthe1905World’sFairbeforejourneyingtoNewYork’sAmericanMuseumofNaturalHistory,whereitremains.WestLinnwascarvedontothemapyearsbefore,whenRobertMoorepurchased1,000acresoflandin1840fromtheWallamutIndiansatWillametteFalls.Soonalumbermillandflourmillwereestablished,andtheregionwasgivenanewnameLinnCityafterfree-stateadvocateLewisF.Linn.HughBurnsandtheMiller,Fields,andWallingfamiliesalsofiguredinearlyWestLinnhistory.Thoughan1861fire,thenflood,destroyedwhatwasLinnCity,thefallscontinueddrawingindustry.OfficiallyincorporatedintoOregonin1913,WestLinn,knownforitshills,trees,rivers,andfamousmeteorite,isasought-aftercommunityinwhichtoraisefamiliesandmadethe2005top-100listofbestplacestolive.
